Lightning Over Wichita

I was cooking a little dinner Saturday night when a big crash of thunder startled me.   Not that thunder is uncommon here, just that we are in a drought and have not seen rain for a long time.  A brief rain shower was followed by a fairly good lightning display, so naturally I had to run out and try to get some lightning images.

  1. It looks like there is the silhouette of a person beside the lightning

Cool capture. Doesn’t even look like it was a long exposure or if it was the air must have been dead still.

  4. This would be a lucky shot for me if I had taken it, but i think there is more skill involved than most would imagine. Timing, exposure (and all the other technical aspects) and knowing where to put the camera are critical. And there does seem to be a person in the clouds, as well. Great shot!

  5. Yes, I thought the image had a certain mysterious flavor to it. As I recall it was unusually still – the storm had passed and the trees were not moving. Thanks for all the comments.
