Don't fret, it's just Charles Ford's photography blog.

I’m Baaaaack

Strike up the music, the Warped Prism is back.   My apologies, an overload of real life stuff caused the unplanned hiatus of this blog.  It may take me awhile to work back up to the previous output, but I’ll try.

The photo above is actually my favorite photo that I shot for the annual Wichita Riverfest photo contest  in June.  It did not win anything (nor did I expect it to) because it really didn’t fit the contest parameters very well.   I did win 4 of the 24 awards, but this non-winner is still my favorite.   These guys were playing in sweltering, muggy heat on top of a  hill in downtown Wichita.  This was overlooking  the famous “tot trot” race where small children are forced to run in front of a crowd of strangers.   Actually,  the older kids seem to have a lot of fun, but it can be a little daunting for the younger ones.  The parents seem to love it though, so every year masses of small children are herded into lines and urged to run for their lives while surrounded by hordes of loud adults.   🙂    Hats off to the Mariachi band here, they were dedicated and sounded quite amazing, especially considering their lack of any sound equipment.

I was about to file a “missing blog” report with the blog police. Welcome back and congratulations (times 4) on your awards. Maybe if your kind enough you’ll share the prizewinners, also.
The Mariachi band photo is a fantastic composition, especially with one musician standing sideways and the guitar player looking right at the lens.

  3. Thanks. The thing about the riverfest photo contest is that it is more like shooting a news event. It’s about advertising and promotion, not art – however I try to work as much art into it as possible. Sometimes that isn’t much though.
